We have big plans for the future of He Waka Eke Noa. Grab a paddle and join us on the journey.

Soon we will be launching HWEN membership packages for clients and buyers. Members will have access to an online register of Māori and Pasifika businesses.

In addition, Partners also receive one-to-one consultancy advice from He Waka Eke Noa on:

  • Creating quality supplier diversity and development strategies, to international standards
  • How to support the growth of Maori and Pasifika entrepreneurship and meet your current and future commercial needs.
  • Developing procurement processes that make smarter use of resources, enables market innovation and contributes to a more inclusive economy.
  • Building strong relationships with Māori and Pasifika businesses beyond transactions for goods, services or works.

We are currently seeking foundation members, so if your business is interested please contact us.

We are developing a certification scheme based on international best practice to certify Māori and Pasifika businesses annually.

Businesses will be able to complete their registration/certification via the website.

Online portal

The online portal will have two key functions:

– enable buyers and clients to search for HWEN suppliers

– enable suppliers to search for the details of nominated representatives of buyer/client members

This exclusive area will only be available to client/buyer members and registered/certified HWEN suppliers

Become nation-wide

He Waka Eke Noa has focused on construction, infrastructure and allied trades in Auckland to meet the immediate procurement opportunities across the Auckland Council family. The next step is for He Waka Eke Noa to become a national platform for clients, buyers and Māori and Pasifika businesses across Aotearoa, covering a wider range of industries, goods, services and works.

Become an independent entity

He Waka Eke Noa was established and is incubated by The Southern Initiative team at Auckland Council. Our aim is that He Waka Eke Noa will become a separate, independent entity affiliated to the Global Supplier Diversity Alliance.

Trans-Tasman and Pacific partnerships

We can see the potential for unique indigenous trans-Tasman and trans-Pacific business partnerships. We will continue to promote relationships between He Waka Eke Noa businesses and Pasifika-owned businesses in the Pacific Islands and indigenous businesses in Australia.

Expand to other include other diverse suppliers

Our priority is Māori and Pasifika-owned businesses. Our goal is to widen this remit to include enterprises owned by women, disabled people and refugees.
